Twitter bans hate speeches, abusive language

Darpan News Desk IANS, 27 Feb, 2015 12:10 PM
Micro-blogging site Twitter has added new reporting tools to help it fight abuse and protect users on its site.

The site has already made it easier to report harassment in tweets.

Now it's making it easier to report other behaviours including impersonation, self-harm and the sharing of private or confidential information, PC World reported.

Twitter also said that it would take new enforcement action against people who violate its rules, which also bans threats and violent speech.

The changes will reach all users in a few weeks.

As a result of the changes it made already, Twitter claims that it now reviews five times as many user reports as it did previously and has tripled the number of people who handle such reports at the company.

Twitter has been criticised for not doing enough to deal with issues like harassment and hate speech.

Although the company didn't elaborate on the mechanism to contain violation with its new rules, but it will reportedly check phone numbers and email addresses to keep out the worst offenders.
