KNOWSHOW 2015 At Vancouver Convention Centre
KNOWSHOW, taking place at the Vancouver Convention Centre July 28 to 30, is a biannual trade show celebrating a decade of showcasing the latest and greatest in Canadian lifestyle and sports fashion and accessories. Split into warm and winter iterations, the focus this week was spring and summer 2016 wear.
Walking between the rows and rows of vendors - separated into sections with names like Downtown (streetwear), Beach (swimwear) and Park (skateboarding goods) - you will see iconic brands including Converse, Adidas and Reebok. But the venue also provides a forum for grassroots businesses to get introduced to the community and hopefully, flourish.
“Where our business is now growing worldwide, the KNOWSHOW is where we were able to debut our line and build a strong core of business in our backyard,” reads a quote from Herschel Supply co-founder Lyndon Cormack on the website. Starting out with mainly just backpacks, Herschel now produces everything from Dopp kits to full suitcases and is regularly seen in popular culture.
This year featured new entrants as well, such as locally-based Layback Co. that sells specialty hammocks in all kinds of designs and colours.
It is the fashion industry after all, so there is definitely a spirit of fun attached to the event. A miniature skateboard ramp was set up in the middle of the concourse in front of a Coors beer station, and in previous years they’ve installed other sets like a makeshift beach.
