Chetan Bhagat Writes 581-Word Note Explaining Why He Won't Explain Things Anymore

  • Chetan Bhagat Writes 581-Word Note Explaining Why He Won't Explain Things Anymore

Author Chetan Bhagat, whose opinions over diverse subjects often become fodder for trolls over Twitter, has started a 'No More Explanations Policy' under which he has decided to not explain or defend his stance over social media.

Chetan on Thursday took to Facebook to share a note in which he explained his 'No More Explanations Policy'.

"The way I was brought up, it was considered rude not to respond to people, especially when they seemed to have some doubts about what you said. Based on that etiquette, I made the mistake of explaining myself when some on Twitter (people) questioned me," Bhagat wrote.

Bhagat further clarified that he never promoted or slammed any political party through his views.

"I have said, I won't explain it. You think I am doing it out of ulterior motives - be my guest. You think I am stupid - sure, you be the smart one," he wrote.

"I also want to end with one thing - some Indians respect you more if you are arrogant. So if I gently respond or explain my point, they almost think he's fair game to be a punching bag. However, many celebrities and political leaders who remain silent inspire, awe and respect.

Of course, only people with low self-esteem respect the arrogant ones, and don't be rude in real life," he added.

Bhagat on May 21, landed himself in cold water after he replied to a post from the Karnataka wing of Aam Aadmi Party, which called him "two and half faced man" for promoting BJP.

"Sweet cartoon. But my views are the same - excise duty on fuel is too high - in 2010 and in 2018 under UPA or BJP, for Hindus or Muslims. In summer or winter. For vegetarians and non-vegetarians. For Dalits and non-Dalits. Now focus on the issue and stop ur divisive thinking," he tweeted.

His tweet didn't go well with AAP supporters, who later slammed the author over the micro-blogging site.
