Keen On Doing More Tamil Films: Baba Sehgal

Darpan News Desk IANS, 02 Nov, 2016 10:33 AM
Singer-rapper Baba Sehgal wants to take his acting career seriously. Having played the antagonist in filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon's upcoming bilingual action-thriller "Achcham Enbathu Madamaiyada", he says he wants to do more Tamil films.

"I enjoyed working on this project. I want to do more Tamil films because I fell in love with the language, and the industry is not alien to me as I have many friends here. I also find Tamil to be a very sweet language, so learning it makes it even more exciting," Sehgal told IANS.

Known for his brief appearance in filmmaker Gunasekar's Telugu historical drama "Rudhramadevi" last year, he donned the khaki in a full-length role in Menon's film.

"I play a bad*** cop. My character is introduced right before the interval and then it hogs the limelight till the end. It's a very realistic role and quite contrary to how southern villains are portrayed, Gautham has maintained some level of subtlety in my performance," he said.

While Simbu plays the lead in "Achcham Enbathu Madamaiyada", Naga Chaitanya is the hero of its Telugu version, "Saahasam Swasaga Sagipo". Both the versions of the film are slated for release on November 11.

Recalling how he bagged the role, Sehgal said: "I had recorded a song for the Telugu film 'Courier Boy Kalyan', which Gautham had produced. I remember telling him that I would like to work with him. Around the same time I had watched his film 'Yennai Arindhaal', and I got even more thrilled to work with him."

To his surprise, he received a call from Menon when he was in Singapore.

"He called and told me he wants me to play a cop in his next film. When I landed in India, I was asked to join the sets the next day. Luckily, I was available for the next ten days and I went ahead and shot my part," he said, adding his character was required to mostly speak in Hindi and Marathi.

Admitting it was tedious to simultaneously shoot in two languages at the same time, he explained: "More than shooting the scenes twice in two languages, the challenging part was to do the action scenes over and over again. I would shoot with Simbu first and then repeat the same scene with Chaitanya."

"Thanks to the amazing shooting atmosphere, Gautham ensured the shoot was completed smoothly. He wouldn't spend too much time on making his actors perform. He would explain what he exactly wants and then leaves it to them to experiment," he added.

Sehgal finds both Simbu and Chaitanya hard-working and he enjoyed working with them.

"I've known both of them for a while. I sang for Simbu in his film 'Osthe', and I've known Chaitanya through his father. Both of them were fun to work with," he said.
