Playing Double Role In Tanu Weds Manu Returns Was Challenging For Kangana

Darpan News Desk IANS, 24 Mar, 2015 12:46 PM
  • Playing Double Role In Tanu Weds Manu Returns Was Challenging For Kangana
She has essayed complex roles in films like "Gangster", "Fashion" and "Queen" with perfection, but managing dual roles in "Tanu Weds Manu Returns" turned out to be a challenge for National Award winning actress Kangana Ranaut.

"Tanu Weds Manu Returns", a sequel of the 2011 film "Tanu Weds Manu", will revolve around Tanu and Manu's life after four years of their marriage. It will feature Kangana playing double roles of Kusum "Datto" Sangwan and Tanuja "Tanu" Trivedi.

Talking about her experience of playing two roles in the sequel, Kangana said: "They are very different. The experience was very challenging. It's usually hard to portray one character, but here I was asked to play two strong characters."

"The biggest challenge for me was to essay these two girls with complete conviction, especially when they have scenes together," added the actress, who turned 28 on Monday and was here to launch her new film's poster here.

Looking lovely in a Sabyasachi Mukherjee designed outfit for the event, Kangana revealed more about her two characters.

"In the beginning of the film, Tanu is more self-centered. She loves herself much more than others. While Dattoo is not like her. She is a complete woman. She is somebody who we would want to be like.

"But Tanu is more beautiful and attractive. Dattoo has bunny teeth, she has got a weird accent and there is nothing glamorous about her. She is an athlete. I have played her with more of boyish gestures," she explained.

So, how will Madhavan, who will be seen as Manu in the film, cope up with Kangana's dual torture this time?

"It takes a lot of effort to look after one wife in real life, but in the film, I'm dealing with two girls. I had a great time filming this one as I learnt a lot from it," he said.

Shooting "Tanu Weds Manu Returns" was fun for Madhavan.

"I was shooting 'Saala Khadoos' before starting 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' and the challenging part for me was that I finished the last day of 'Saala Khadoos', shaved off and moved into this one.

"For that, I was very beefed up and very muscular, so it was really unfortunate that Manu looks like a 'pehelwaan' after four years in this film. But more than the physicality, getting back to Manu was fun... I think it is the freakiest character in my career."

"Tanu Weds Manu Returns" is slated to release in end of May.
