Same weight for long time restricts roles: Arjun Kapoor

Darpan News Desk IANS, 19 Mar, 2016 01:33 PM
  • Same weight for long time restricts roles: Arjun Kapoor
Actor Arjun Kapoor, who has had weight issues in the past, says having the same weight for a long period of time leads to a restriction in the kind of roles being offered.

In an interview for his film "Ki & Ka", Arjun was asked whether there was an internal pressure in the industry to stay fit to get work.

"If you are a good actor, such pressure does not bother you. But if you remain same in terms of weight for a very long time, then there is a restriction of roles. You might not get variation in your roles; people think you will not be able to do it."

Arjun is now fit and fine, but his weight once was 140 kg. He shed it to become an actor, thanks to encouragement from superstar Salman Khan.

Actresses like Parineeti Chopra and Sonakshi Sinha have been constantly criticised for their weight by the fashion police. And Parineeti has gone under complete transformation after a break and is looking stunning in her slimmer avatar, while Sonakshi has also lost weight.

Arjun added: "I guess society has created this pressure. It has become a visual world. Looks have become important for everyone because of the society and the surroundings. But there is much more pressure on girls when it comes to such things. Girls are put through a lot of pressure to look good."

He will next be seen romancing Kareena Kapoor in the upcoming R. Balki drama "Ki & Ka" which is slated to release on April 1.

Honestly, after working for 17 years in the industry, the age of the character is no priority. In fact, I don’t even mind playing a grandmother if the role is substantial
