I'm Deeply Motivated By Fear: Will Smith

  • I'm Deeply Motivated By Fear: Will Smith
Actor Will Smith, who has been part of the entertainment industry for the past few decades, says he still lives in “complete terror” while shooting, but tries to get motivated from his fear and build his repertoire.

Asked whether he still gets nervous or afraid while facing the camera, Smith told hollywoodreporter.com: “I live in complete terror. Everything for me about this business and about what I’ve been trying to build and what I’ve been trying to do with my life keeps me in terror. I am deeply motivated by fear.

“With a movie, it’s like you never know; you can love it, you can have done what you think is the best work you’ve ever done, and you put it out on that Friday, and everybody hates it - and you’ve taken a year.

“And they don’t just dislike it, you know? They want to be really creative with how they let you know they hate it.”

Smith also explained why he turned down the offer of starring in filmmaker Quentin Tarantino's 2012 film “Django Unchained”.

He said he would have loved to have starred in the film, if it wasn't for all that vengeance and violence.

The 47-year-old explained that he turned down the role that eventually went to Jamie Foxx, because Tarantino refused to turn it into a love story.

Smith said: “I wanted to make that movie so badly. I wanted to make the greatest love story that African-Americans had ever seen from an American cinema.

“But with that story I felt the only way I could make that movie, is it had to be a love story, not a vengeance story.”
