  • Use This App To Check Your Makeup For Potential Toxic Ingredients
A new app informing consumers about the potential toxics in their makeup has been launched in the market. Think Dirty strives to inform consumers of any potential carcinogens in their cosmetics and personal care products.

In order to use the app, the user has to scan the barcode of the cosmetic product that are available in stores. The database currently consists of 12,000 products using information from several agencies specializing in identifying and explaining the hazards of toxic ingredients.

Once the user has scanned the barcode, the app rates the product on a scale of 0 to 10. Rating is based on three different categories – carcinogenicity, development and reproductive toxicity and allergies and immunotoxicities. Not only that, the app will also suggest “cleaner” options and products that get the job done without all the carcinogens. There is also the facility to submit a certain product to the app in case it is not displayed on the database.

Founder and CEO Lily Tse invented the app following personal tragedies. “Due to family history of cancer, I decided to research into the many causes behind breast cancer, including toxic ingredients in cosmetic and personal care products,” Tse states on her company’s website.
