Start your day with healthy smoothies

  • Start your day with healthy smoothies
Looking for a healthy way to start your day? Why not try a delicious smoothie, packed with nutritious fruit and vegetables that not only helps in starting your day in the best way but also helps in keeping your digestive system running smoothly.

Psyllium husk is one such product that is an excellent source of fibre and if used in smoothies can help in making it thick and thereby keeping you feeling fuller for longer, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

Simply add one or two tablespoons of a psyllium husk supplement such as Lepicol to the smoothie of your choice and enjoy experimenting with your favourite fruits and vegetables.

One can also add many varieties to smoothies to make it more beneficial and nutritional for the body.

For extra added goodness, try adding fruits such as bananas, berries, kiwi, spinach and almonds.

One can also boost the metabolism by adding green tea and greek yoghurt. Walnuts are high in omega 3 fatty acids, whilst the almond is loaded with healthy fats, fibre and protein and contains just the right amount of essential fatty acids that can help give your metabolism a boost.

Oatmeal and flaxseed are also popular additions to smoothies and if used alongside the psyllium husk, will give you a hearty smoothie that will fill you up and prevent hunger pangs.

For glowing skin and lovely locks, blueberries, kiwis and spinach are high in antioxidants, whilst a handful of walnuts is packed with nutrients that will boost the appearance of your skin, hair and eyes. For those looking to indulge a little, adding some dark chocolate, high in cacao, can help to hydrate the skin.

To banish those winter blues, add some ingredients that are high in vitamin D. Fortified milk and soya drinks have enhanced levels of vitamin D, whilst egg yolks are naturally high in vitamin D. Products such as orange juice and oatmeal are also often fortified with vitamin D, and are a popular addition to many smoothie recipes.
