Keep Your Eyewear on Trend

The changing of the season also means a change in the wardrobe.

It’s time to put the shorts, sandals and tank tops away and pull out the jeans and sweaters, jackets and boots. But your fashion goes beyond just your wardrobe. You should also be thinking about what you are wearing on your face.

“Chances are people who require prescription eyewear are wearing their glasses most of every day,” says Bijan Minbashian, Vice President of Operations at Hakim Optical. “That makes glasses a big part of your personal style. If you haven’t updated your eyewear lately, now is the perfect time.”

As we roll into the fall of 2018, here are some thoughts on eyewear trends:

Throwback — Fashion watchers are noting retro styles popping up on runways and on the street, and your eyewear is not different. Some frames are hinting towards old school cat’s eye shapes and prints such as tortoise shell are prominent this fall.

Bold colours — With the changing leaves, autumn is a colourful season. We are seeing the same in eyeglasses. Bold pink or red frames will help you make a statement.

Round is a shape — Many of the most popular frames this year tends towards the round, with subtle retro hints. They sit comfortably on the face and are versatile enough that they can be worn in the office or at the club.

“It’s important to remember that your glasses are for more than helping you see better,” says Minbashian. “They are part of who you are and the face you present. Make sure the frames you choose match your personality and elevate your style, and you can’t go wrong.”

While designing for fashion week is a more streamlined process, I’m constantly looking for inspiration all through the year, and [then] put these together in 3-4 collections a year. I’m forever scouring through Pinterst, taking down notes, sketching in my diary. My design process is a bit erratic, but there is a method to the madness, and that is what gives every piece its essence and ties it together.
