Pour Homme: A boost to the male persona

  • Pour Homme: A boost to the male persona
Dressed in your best suit, perfectly styled hair, and tie – making an impression with shoes everyone notices. Better yet, overall making a statement. As a male, have you ever paid attention to your skin, your facial skin? A boost to skin care is not just for women. Keeping a straight forward approach to a skin care regimen without making changes to your daily routine can be easy. Just by substituting a few products and maybe adding one for a special occasion is all that you need for healthy looking skin.

So, here’s your how to for simple no fuss skin care, so any male can achieve fresh, fit and younger looking skin.

What’s Your Skin Like?
Ever wonder why your skin looks dehydrated, oily or possibly red around midday. Especially when you go out in the sun, take hot showers. It seemed to look fresh when you washed your face in the morning and it felt squeaky clean. Ever notice little bumps appearing and disappearing, even though you thought you had normal skin. Well its time to determine your skin type and its needs, oily, dry or combination or sensitive.

Men’s skin produces more oil, thus it needs more cleansing. Excess oil is produced by overacting oil-producing glands and gives skin an unappealing greasy shine. Thicker epidermis (top layer of skin) means slightly stronger products may be needed to clean a man’s skin, but doesn’t necessarily imply the use of power bar soaps to wash your face. Get yourself a good facial cleanser that will not strip the natural oils from your skin, which is important as it prevents the skin from premature aging. Most men have a common concern of black heads and large pores.

Using a scrub will sweep down dirt and oil from the pores, making them less visible and leaving the skin free of environmental pollution, while prepping the skin for a close shave. Black heads occur on top of clogged pores and can collect dirt. All in one cleansers with micro beads exfoliate the congested pores and toners can be used to calm the skin from any irritation. Sensitive skin can get red around the t-zone easily and a burning sensation is felt when you apply moisturizers or lotions with fragrance and alcohol.

Why Moisturize?
Moisturizing is the second most important step after cleansing, even if you have oily skin. Washing your face frequently sometimes makes your face feel dry and flaky. Moisturizers help the skin hydrate and moist, making it look fresh from the outside. Dry skin is more likely to get visible lines and wrinkles. As we age the skin looses collagen and elastin, so we need more moisture to keep it resilient and firm. Keeping yourself hydrated is vital, especially if your intake of caffeine is higher as it tends to dehydrate the body.

Moisturizers can be found for all skin types, especially those formulated for men’s skin. Choose one that absorbs into the skin and doesn’t feel heavy or greasy. If you have oily skin invest in oil control moisturizers that still provide hydration, yet keep the excess sebum under control. Remember not to over dry your face, as the skin will produce more oil. Men with sensitive skin or acne prone skin should use a mild cleanser and a non-comedogonic moisturizer.

Avoid hot showers and pat dry your facial skin. After-shave lotions can be replaced with soothing calming balms to avoid any skin irritation. A well-groomed man is not only about dressing up in expensive clothing or looking fashionable even when dressed casual. It’s all about a head to toe image.

Banish Fatigue
Its true, eyes are the messengers. Bright eyes with smooth firm skin say a lot about you and your lifestyle. So whatever your style is, you can fake it by taking care of the most delicate area of your facial skin. Tired puffy eyes or eyes exaggerated with dark circles and wrinkles creating strong crows feet are signs of fatigue and stress.

Using products with antioxidants like vitamin A, C, and E that are soothing gels around the delicate eye area are absolutely essential and not a time consuming deal. Gently patting a small amount of eye gel or cream under the eyes will help to combat the concerns of fatigued tired eyes. To reduce puffiness apply an eye gel and keep the application pressure to a minimum. Easy to use roll on products filled with energizing and soothing ingredients are commonly available at local drugstores.

A Hand Shake
Rest is all-good, but what’s with rough dry hands. The lasting impression of a handshake should be warm, powerful or welcoming. When hands feel greasy, sweaty or rough, there is a problem. Non-oily hand creams with moisturizing agents, especially made for a man’s strong skin and slightly massaged into the skin or cuticles is all you need.

Using hand sanitizers is a common practice these days, making your hands free of germs, but leaving skin dry. The power man needs a no fuss total skin care, so try to use moisturizers and hand creams right after washing when skin is slightly damp. It will absorb the products better and faster without leaving residue or oily film behind.
