Rumor has it that Alexander Wang is itching to design an haute couture line for Balenciaga. Wang was officially announced as the new creative director for this posh affair on December 3.

The CEO of Belenciaga, Franois-Henri Pinault raved about the new creative director on an interview with CBS last night saying “Alexandar Wang is young and he has a very universal culture. He has a very strong talent, not only when it comes to accessible product, but his talent could also be adapted for couture at Balenciaga.”

Pinault briefly touched on the subject of the controversial departure of Nicolas Ghesquière, the former creative director, saying “It was a mutual decision. We want to continue to build. We decided that with Nicolas it was time to separate our paths. After 15 years, it was quite a noble decision. The brand has been built over the last 15 years with Nicolas.

We don’t intend to change. It’s not a rupture. We plan to continue to build on what has been built by him. We needed someone who was capable of coping with that. So that is what is at stake.” (Rumor has it that Nicolas Ghesquiere has been collaborating with LVMH to create his own collection – stay tuned!).

Balenciaga is a fashion house known for its avant garde creations. Balenciaga, in the 1950’s had been one of the first fashion designers to transform the silhouette to manipulate the female body with clothing. The pieces are exquisitely unique. The Spring/Summer 2013 line speaks for itself!

Alexander Wang, on the other hand, has a very casual laid back vibe for his designs. His clothes are beautiful and yet elegantly simple: fit for everyday wear! Aside from the wonderful things Pinault mentioned about Wang, he still feels that working at Balenciaga will most definitely be a challenge for the young designer, as he still has a lot to learn. Alexander Wang will continue his brand in New York, in addition to creating the next Balenciaga masterpiece!
