How to Pack like a Pro

  • How to Pack like a Pro
Packing can be a struggle for even the most seasoned traveller. Figuring out how much to bring, determining what to keep in your carry on and what to stow away and ensuring that you have access to all your creature comforts is sometimes just overwhelming. Luckily, the Emirates Cabin Crew has the inside scoop. They’ve shared their top packing tips as expert travellers who are constantly on the move.

TIP #1: Keep a “Goodie Bag”
No matter where you’re headed, there are some essentials you will always need. While airlines like Emirates offer some great onboard amenities in economy class (like toys for little ones or new interactive kits full of activities, earplugs, sleep masks and more), it doesn’t hurt to keep a little goodie bag ready at all times, so you have what you need once you land. Pack your vacation go-tos, like mini toiletries, medications, tissues and hand sanitizer, and replenish after every trip so you’re prepared for even the most spontaneous adventure.

TIP #2: Fill up your Phone
Phones and tablets are miraculous little devices that can really lighten your load. Try replacing your bulky travel necessities with digital apps. With the right tools, your phone or tablet can transform into a camera, a good book, a travel guide or a map. You can even download a packing program to help with the planning process! Plus, on airlines like Emirates, which offers onboard Wi-Fi (and 10MB of free data!), you can access all of your planning tools while you’re in the sky.

TIP #3: Organize your Outfits
Put together your complete outfits in advance, and lay them out on a bed our couch where they won’t get crushed. Leave yourself a day before you put them in a bag, so you can easily see if there is something you’ve forgotten – or if there’s anything you can remove. Wear your bulkiest items on the plane, to free up space in your luggage and keep you warm on the journey.

TIP #4: Source Soothing Scents
To keep your clothes smelling clean and fresh, try including a drawer sachet in your suitcase. Scents like lavender and verbena are persistent without being overpowering, and help fight off those musty travel smells.

TIP #5: Prepare for the Plane
Your brain and body will always thank you for a carefully constructed carry on. Bring a blow-up neck pillow that can be stored in your handbag, and make use of the earplugs, eye mask and comfy socks offered in planes to help you get to sleep. A few hydrating tools (moisturizing lip balm, body lotion and moisture spray) will keep you feeling fresh in the sky. And don’t forget about entertainment! Pack a pair of headphones, or ask for complimentary ones on the plane, so you can enjoy the in-flight entertainment. It’s also smart to pack a good book or magazine to help pass the time.
