Mauritius ranked best honeymoon destination in Indian Ocean region

    The island of Mauritius has confirmed its reputation as the best destination in the Indian Ocean region for weddings and honeymoon.
     
    Mauritius won seven awards during the 21st edition of the prestigious World Travel Awards (WTA) held last week, Xinhua reported Monday.
     
    Air Mauritius won the award for the best airline in the Indian Ocean region, while the Mauritius International Airport was chosen as the best. 
     
    The country also won the award for best underwater diving destination.
     
    The announcements for the winners in the remaining regions of Asia, Oceania, North America and Caribbean will be made before the grand finale Nov 29 in Marrakesh, Morocco.
     
    The World Travel Awards were launched in 1993 to recognise, award and celebrate excellence in all sectors of the tourism industry.
