Ingredients:
For the shells
- 1 ¾ cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup almond flour
- 3 egg whites (room temperature)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- Pinch of salt
- Gel food coloring (optional)
For the filling:
Buttercream, ganache, or jam of your choice.
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C). Sift almond flour and powdered sugar together. Set aside.
- Whip egg whites with a pinch of salt until frothy.
- Gradually add sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
- Add food coloring if desired.
- Fold the dry ingredients into the meringue until the batter flows like lava.
- Pipe small circles on a baking sheet.
- Rest for 30-60 minutes until the tops form a skin.
- Bake for 14-16 minutes, until firm. Cool completely.
- Pair up shells and pipe with your favorite festive filling.
- Refrigerate for 24 hours for the best texture. Bring macarons to room temperature before serving and enjoy!
