Bihar IPS Officer Fired Shots To Celebrate CBI Posting. Transfer Cancelled

Darpan News Desk IANS, 02 May, 2018 12:38 PM
An IPS officer in Bihar has been caught on camera firing gunshots in the air from his pistol at his farewell party, following which an order for his central deputation with the CBI has been withdrawn, officials said.

The matter came to light this morning when news channels played a video footage from the function late last night.

The state police headquarters has taken serious note of the incident and withdrawn the movement order for Siddharth Mohan Jain for a central deputation and ordered an inquiry.

"The act was not in good taste and certainly against the code of conduct for police officers. We have, therefore, ordered an inquiry into the episode and withdrawn Jain's movement order," Director General of Police, Bihar, K S Dwivedi told .

Jain, who was the Superintendent of Police for Katihar district, was selected for a four-year central deputation with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the state home department had issued his transfer order on April 27, when close to 70 IAS and IPS officers were given new postings.

Since the officer has been transferred from Katihar, he has been asked to report to the headquarters, the DGP said.

"A thorough inquiry will be conducted into the entire episode and a report thereof will be sent to the government which will decide the future course of action", Dwivedi said.

Katihar District Magistrate Mithilesh Mishra was also transferred in the reshuffle and posted as the IG (prisons).

A function was organized in Katihar where the outgoing SP and DM also celebrated their personal friendship and crooned the 1970s chartbuster 'Yeh dosti hum nahin chhodenge (we will not break this friendship)'.

Overcome apparently by emotions, Jain took out his pistol and fired a few gunshots in the air. It was, however, not clear if he used his service pistol.
