New Delhi, Oct 24 (IANS) Delhi Police have arrested five persons after busting a carjacking racket involved in stealing high-end cars, an officer said on Tuesday.

The officer said the police have also recovered five luxury cars, 25 registration plates, 22 remote keys of various vehicles, one programming machine (scanner) from the possession of the accused.  

The accused have been identified as Tarun a.k.a. Meenu (37), Sonu (35), Parikshit Malik (25), all residents of Haryana, Sahil Pahuja a.k.a. Sam (34), a resident of Delhi, and Parshang Tamang (32) from Arunachal Pradesh, the main receiver of the stolen cars.

According to the police, on October 6 they received information that four criminals involved in numerous motor vehicle theft cases have been located in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, with the intention of selling a stolen car.

“Based on this information, a team reached in Bahadurgarh. Acting on the informant's tip-off, the team successfully apprehended four individuals as they attempted to enter a Fortuner car,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka), M. Harsha Vardhan.

On interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in various car thefts in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). They also disclosed that they had been in possession of four stolen cars and three two-wheelers.

During investigation, a substantial quantity of tools, remote keys, and registration plates for various cars, as well as an expensive programming machine, were recovered.

The accused also admitted to selling stolen cars in Arunachal Pradesh and Punjab. 

During interrogation, Sahil disclosed that he had come in contact with Meenu through Parikshit, leading to his involvement in the sale and purchase of stolen cars.

“He operated in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland,” the DCP said.

After their disclosures, a police team went to Arunachal Pradesh.

“In collaboration with the local police, the police team arrested Parshang, the main receiver of the stolen cars,” the DCP said.
