Venkaiah Naidu Slams Liberals For Silence On Zaira's Trolling

    Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday slammed "pseudo liberals" for being silent on the trolling of "Dangal" movie actor Zaira Wasim and said that the whole nation supported her.
     
    "It shows how pseudo liberals react to different situations and adopt double standards. Why they are silent now? They are always violent but on these matters they are quiet," Naidu told reporters after an event at Indian Institute of Mass Communication here.
     
    The 16-year old Zaira was trolled on social media for posting a picture with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. Later, the actor had issued an apology over the incident.
     
    "Why did she have to tender an apology for meeting the CM of her own state? What wrong has this young, talented artist committed? Where are the so-called pseudo liberals?" Naidu said.
     
    Zaira has received support from her "Dangal" co-star Aamir Khan and other film industry stalwarts including Anupam Kher, Javed Akhtar, and political leaders such as Omar Abdullah.
     
    Wrestler Geeta Phogat, who was portrayed by Zaira in the movie, also has extended her support.
