A 10-year-old boy is in hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries after being hit by two cars while riding his bike in Nanaimo.

Mounties say the initial investigation shows the boy was riding his bike down a steep driveway near Nova Street when he suddenly rode onto Howard Avenue, where he was struck by a southbound vehicle, followed by another collision with a northbound vehicle.

Police say both drivers stayed at the scene and co-operated with investigators, and the boy has been airlifted to Victoria for treatment.

Initial investigations indicate that speed, alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash.

Supreme Court in New Westminster on Monday, and court records show he was convicted on 11 counts. The charges related to historical sexual assaults of young men or teenage boys who attended several Coquitlam-area churches between 1993 and 2007.
