The City of Vancouver has activated additional emergency shelters through Monday night as temperatures drop below zero overnight.

Environment Canada forecasted a low of minus two on Sunday in the city and a low of zero for today.

At the same time, a wind chill of minus seven was expected Sunday night and a wind chill of minus eight is expected this morning.

Criteria for the city's extreme weather alert system includes when temperatures are at or below zero degrees, or feel that way with wind chill.

Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne says he wishes Canadian grocers would be more forthcoming with the public about their plans to stabilize prices. Earlier this month, Champagne announced that major Canadian grocers — Loblaw, Metro, Empire, Walmart and Costco — submitted initial plans to the federal government for how they will stabilize prices in the face of high inflation.
