  • Attorney General David Eby set to make his intention to run for BC NDP leader official

Attorney General David Eby and Minister for Housing via a Tweet teased about becoming the next Premier of BC.

At an event tonight in Kitsilano he is to make his intentions of running for the province's top job official. Eby is the frontrunner in the leadership race and would become premier if he wins the leadership contest or is the only candidate to enter the race before the contest deadline in October.

British Columbia’s Minister of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation and MLA for North Delta Ravi Kahlon and Minister for Infrastructure Bowinn Ma MLA for North Vancouver-Lonsdale and BC Minister of State for Infrastructure both threw their support behind Eby a few weeks ago while bowing out of the race.

Ministers Selina Robinson, Josie Osborne, Nathan Cullen, George Heyman, Melanie Mark, Katrina Chen and Adrian Dix all passed on the leadership bid.

Eby is a high-profile politician and recently took over the ICBC file, launched a public inquiry into money laundering in BC, and has been at the forefront of dealing with the housing crisis.

Due to his health and his cancer recovery John Horgan decided to step down as Premier of BC and expressed his gratitude on being able to serve as the Premier of BC via a Twitter post.

The next provincial election is set to take place in 2024 but could be called in 2023.
