Austrian Man Killed In Avalanche While Heli-Skiing In East-central B.C.

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 07 Mar, 2017 10:15 AM
REVELSTOKE, B.C. — A 52-year-old visitor from Austria has been killed in an avalanche north of Revelstoke, B.C.

The man was with a heli-skiing outfit about 100 kilometres north of Revelstoke in the North Columbia region of east-central British Columbia.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky says the victim was the third of five skiers in the group and was engulfed after triggering the slide Monday afternoon.

Avalanche Canada currently lists the avalanche risk in that region as considerable at the treeline and above.

The risk evaluation means dangerous avalanche conditions exist, natural avalanches are possible and human-triggered slides are likely.

Grabinsky did not name the heli-skiing company involved or provide further details about the victim.
