Avalanche risk level for parts of BC

Avalanche Canada has raised the risk level for parts of B-C due to warming weather after recent heavy snowfalls.

The organization says there is considerable avalanche risk in northwestern B-C from Kitimat to an area next to the Alaskan Panhandle, as "ongoing precipitation, wind, and warming" creates dangerous conditions.

For northern regions, storm snow and warming temperatures are causing dangerous avalanche conditions. If you're riding in these areas, it's time to step back from avalanche terrain.

The elevated warning level also applies to a stretch of the northern Rockies east of Prince George, as "rapidly changing weather has created complex and dangerous conditions."

The region has seen winter storm and freezing rain warnings in recent weeks from Environment Canada.
