Comox Valley RCMP Investigate Serious Assault Downtown Courtenay

Darpan News Desk, 22 Nov, 2019 09:58 PM

The investigation that began as a serious assault is now a homicide after the victim passed away in hospital yesterday afternoon.

On November 19, 2019 at approximately 1:25 p.m. Comox Valley RCMP Frontline officers responded to a report of an assault that had just occurred on the 350-block of 6th Street in Courtenay. When officers arrived they located a 46-year old man unconscious on the sidewalk suffering from life threatening injuries.

Investigators have spoken with several witnesses; however, we believe there are more witnesses out there who have not yet come forward said S/Sgt. Glen Breckon, Comox Valley RCMP Major Crime Unit.

This is not believed to be a random incident and a person of interest has been identified by investigators.

Investigators would like to speak to anyone with information, or who may have video or dashcam footage from the downtown area. If you have any information, please call the Comox Valley RCMP at (250) 338-1321 and refer to file 2019-17839. Additionally, you can send video footage directly to the Comox Valley RCMP at comoxvalleyrcmp@rcmp-grc.gc.ca and an investigator will follow up.

If you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at http://comoxvalleycrimestoppers.bc.ca/.
