Crews continue to investigate Cambie Rd Overpass crash

UPDATE: The investigation is still continuing with crews on scene to look at the damage done to the Cambie Road overpass above BCHwy99 during yesterday's collision. A truck struck the overpass and southbound Hwy 99 remains blocked. The detour is down to the Shell Road exit.
EARLIER STORY:
Richmond RCMP is advising that the South bound lanes of Hwy 99 and the Cambie Road overpass are closed due to a commercial vehicle collision with the bridge deck.
Both roads will be closed for an unknown amount of time as engineers assess the damage to the overpass. Southbound travelers should detour by way of the No 4 Road or Shell Road exit off ramps. Northbound traffic on Hwy 99 is not affected at this time.
There are 359 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 51 are in intensive care. In the past 72 hours, 14 new deaths have been reported, for an overall total of 2,946.
Statistics Canada says 65,253 new battery-only and plug-in hybrid electric cars were registered in the first nine months of 2021, more than the number registered across 12 months in any previous year.
The Insurance Corporation of B.C. says converter theft claims have climbed from 89 in 2017 to 1,953 last year, totalling more than $4 million in claim costs for 2021.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have identified them as Jaspinder Singh, 21, Karanpal Singh, 22, Mohit Chouhan, 23, Pawan Kumar, 23, and Harpreet Singh, 24. They were pronounced dead on the scene.
