DARPAN 7th Annual Extraordinary Achievement Awards- Nominations Now Open!

    For the past 6 years, DARPAN has been hosting the Extraordinary Achievement Awards that honour and celebrate the achievements of South Asians in BC. 
     
    Together with your support, these awards have highlighted triumph over struggles and leadership over hardship to benefit not only the Canadian society but also the global society at large. 
     
    These extraordinaire have gone beyond their boundaries while working towards a larger cause and in this endeavour, they have left a tremendous impact on the generations to follow. This year, as we gear ourselves to celebrate the 7th annual awards evening, we hope to motivate, inspire and above all appreciate the heroes living amongst us. 
     
     
    Extraordinary Achievement Awards are community driven and presented to ten recipients in the categories of Community Crusader, Young Wonder, Industry Marvel, Corporate Engagement, Advancing Philanthropy, International Sensation and more. 
     
    The evening consists of an extraordinary Guest of Honour, top-notch entertainment, gourmet three-course meal and awards presentation.
     
    Here are some individuals we have previously presented the Extraordinary Achievement Award to:
     
     
    • Harjit Singh Sajjan (Category- Breaking Barriers, 2011): Honourable Minister of Defence for Canada, Sajjan was the first Sikh to take command of an army regiment in Canada.
     
     
    • Wally Oppal (Category- Industry Marvel, 2015): Canadian lawyer, former judge and provincial politician, Oppal was involved in reforms including establishment of Canada’s first community court to deal with chronic offenders, developing new Rules of Court to promote quicker resolution of disputes and developing initiatives in dealing with violence against women
     
     
    • Dr. Raghbir Singh Bains (Category- Community Crusader, 2014): Author of the Encyclopaedia of Sikhism on Multimedia Technology and also a community activist. Dr. Bains has also done extensive research on HIV-AIDS in Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya and has initiated numerous seminars, youth camps and community campaigns
     
     
    • Sirish Rao (Category- Artistic Visionary, 2014): Hailed as one of the most original contemporary voices in Indian literature, Rao is author of over twenty books, ranging from novels to children's books to re-telling of classic myths. He currently serves as the Artistic Director of Vancouver’s Indian Summer Festival which showcases contemporary South Asian arts and ideas. 
     
    We urge you to nominate individuals from the community that you think have represented their South Asian in a remarkable while positively impacting our society. You can even nominate yourself or your family.
