Escaped Child Killer Michael Douglas Sheets, Who Walked Away From Mission Prison Has Been Found

The Canadian Press, 04 Sep, 2018 01:04 PM

MISSION, B.C. — A British Columbia man who walked away from a minimum-security prison while serving time for a firebombing that killed two children in Calgary has been apprehended.

The Correctional Service of Canada says Michael Sheets was reported missing from the Mission Institution on Saturday. 48-year-old has been recaptured, the Correctional Service of Canada confirmed on Twitter Tuesday morning.

At approximately 5:30 am on September 4, 2018 inmate Michael Douglas Sheets was apprehended by the Saanich Police Department.

Sheets is serving a sentence of more than 14-years for manslaughter and arson for his role in the firebombing that killed a six-year-old boy and his four-year-old sister in 2004.

CSC is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.

A search also continues for another Mission Institution inmate — John Mackenzie — who was serving a life sentence for second-degree murder when he did not appear for a head count on Aug. 7.
