Extreme Weather Means Ferry Sailings Cancelled From Tsawwassen And Gulf Islands

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 17 Nov, 2015 01:12 PM
VANCOUVER — High winds have led BC Ferries to cancel sailings between Tsawwassen and the southern Gulf Islands.

Ferries spokeswoman Deborah Marshall says the extreme weather means sailings of the Queen of Burnaby have been halted for the day.

Sailings have also been suspended between Comox and Powell River to Texada Island and beyond to Cortez Island.

Marshall says service on those routes may resume Monday, depending on the weather.

She says weather conditions will be closely monitored to determine whether sailings will continue from the Lower Mainland to Vancouver Island.

Marshall says winds of 40 knots or more on major routes can lead to cancellations but other factors, including the direction of the wind, are also considered.
