Famous Radio Host HARJIT SINGH GILL Announces His Candidacy For Surrey-Newton Riding In The Upcoming Federal Election

Darpan News Desk, 18 Jun, 2019 05:11 PM

Famous radio host Harjit Singh Gill today announced his candidacy for the Surrey-Newton riding in the upcoming Federal Election. He will be running as an NDP candidate and will be facing liberal candidate Sukh Dhaliwal and conservative candidate Harpreet Singh.

Gill immigrated to Canada in 1997 and has been a long time resident of Surrey. He running with the promise to make the city safe and a better place.

Here’s the complete text of his announcement:

Today, with the support of my family, I am honored to announce my candidacy for the Surrey-Newton NDP in the upcoming Federal Election.

Before immigrating to Canada in 1997, I have a experience working as a civil engineer with international businesses, During this time, I had an opportunity to experience different governance models and learn how we as people can change legislation to better serve our communities.

Since my immigration, I have been a proud resident of Surrey, along with conducting business in the Surrey-Newton Area. My wife has taught in the schools in Surrey newton area and both of my children attended schools in Surrey.

I have been a radio talk show host since 2009, discussing and advocating for issues affecting a very diverse community and have volunteered my services to other groups to make this Surrey safe the best place.I have played a key role in educating and raising awareness about the importance of blood donation by working with prominent blood donation groups, a very successful campaign.

We are in need of services to support those struggling with mental health, drug addictions, gangs and gun violence. I played a role in establishing a “South Asian Help Line” to ensure access for help in different languages and cultural context.

The inaction by the Federal Government, both under the Conservatives and Liberals, to address the growing drug crisis and housing affordability in our community are just a couple of reasons why I decided to put my name forward for the candidacy.

There are many more issues that have affected our community and must be addressed. These community issues and, an opportunity to give back to my residents and to say “thank you” to Canada for the opportunity to build a better life for my family inspire me to be a candidate to become your voice in Ottawa.

    Warm Regards

    Harjit Singh Gill
