Forestry Crews Busy Spotting New Fires Spawned By Overnight Storm

The Canadian Press, 05 Aug, 2015 11:21 AM
  • Forestry Crews Busy Spotting New Fires Spawned By Overnight Storm
KAMLOOPS, B.C. — A lightning storm has rolled across the B-C Interior and the B-C Wildfire Management Branch says it means more work -- and more concern -- for the province's parched woodlands.

Information officer Melissa Klassen says 400 lightning strikes were tracked throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre overnight.

She says those strikes, yesterday afternoon and evening, sparked more than a dozen new wildfire starts.

The hardest-hit area was within the Salmon Arm fire zone, but overall, Klassen says 14 new starts have been recorded across the fire centre.

She says, so far, all the blazes remain small.

Air patrols in the region will continue throughout the day, to ensure any more fires don't go unnoticed.
