Heavy rain expected on B.C.'s south coast as atmospheric river arrives

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 09 Dec, 2025 10:12 AM
  • Heavy rain expected on B.C.'s south coast as atmospheric river arrives

Environment Canada has issued a number of weather warnings across British Columbia, including an atmospheric river system bringing up to 80 millimetres of rain to parts of the Lower Mainland.

It says heavy rainfall is expected in the North Shore and Coquitlam-Maple Ridge areas of Metro Vancouver, as well as the Fraser Valley, Howe Sound and into the Interior along Highway 3 to Princeton.

Further north, snow warnings have been issued around Stewart and a stretch of Highway 97 between Prince George and Dawson Creek, with up to 25 centimetres expected.

The atmospheric river on B.C.'s south coast region is expected to cause freezing levels to rise, potentially creating snowmelt that may combine with rain to create high streamflows and localized flooding.

A high streamflow advisory is active for much of the south and central coast, including in the Lower Fraser Basin, where minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Motorists are asked to avoid driving through flooded roads and be aware of sudden hazardous driving conditions.

The heavy rain is expected to last through Wednesday evening.
