Man arrested after firearms call in Victoria

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 24 Jul, 2020 09:28 PM
  • Man arrested after firearms call in Victoria

A man has been arrested in Victoria after a standoff that started with a report about a firearm being discharged.

The Victoria Police Department says officers were called Friday to a temporary multi-unit residential facility before an emergency response team in an armoured truck responded.

It says in a release that nearby suites were evacuated and roads were closed but a suspect refused to surrender for two hours before finally exiting but not complying with commands.

The department says less-lethal plastic projectiles were deployed to take the man into custody and that he was assessed by paramedics.

The housing facility has been at the centre of multiple complaints from residents and calls to police.

Officers recently seized a replica assault rifle from a man in the parking lot.
