Missing Hiker Emerges From Forest During Search In Maple Ridge

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 29 May, 2015 11:50 AM
MAPLE RIDGE, B.C. — Mounties say an overdue hiker has been found in Maple Ridge, B.C., but not by search crews — the man walked out of the forest on his own.

RCMP say the man hadn't been seen since Thursday afternoon and was reported missing to police at about 11 p.m. the same day.

Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue began looking for the hiker overnight in the University of British Columbia's Malcolm Knapp Research Forest, where the man had gone walking.

The effort continued into Friday morning, when the man surprised tired search crews by emerging from the forest.

Police have not provided any information about the hiker's condition.

The forest on the outskirts of the city consists of a network of trails that take anywhere from about 45 minutes to three hours to complete.
