Police in Nanaimo say a 24-year-old man has died of his injuries after a crash with a suspected impaired driver.
Nanaimo R-C-M-P say the crash happened around 10 p-m on Wednesday, and the other driver remains in hospital.
Mounties say their thoughts and condolences go to the man's family and friends, but didn't release his name.
Investigators are asking people who may have dash cam video of the collision to contact them.
West Fraser says the downtime at the Cariboo mill will help the company align its production capacity, though its plans may change if the fibre forecasts do. The company says the mill expects to mitigate some of the impact on employees through vacation scheduling and alternative work assignments.
