White Rock fire officials say one person is dead after a blaze broke out in an apartment unit.
Firefighters were called to the building over the weekend and contained the blaze to one apartment, but there was water and smoke damage in other areas.
Officials say the victim was in the apartment where the fire originated and it is not considered suspicious.
The identity of the victim has not been released.
Lal was a student at Tamanawis Secondary School in Surrey and was an avid sports player. Taren was a loving son, older brother, friend, and role model to those around him. Taren was involved in the community through sports including wrestling, kabaddi, and weightlifting with hopes to join the police force in the future.
