White Rock fire officials say one person is dead after a blaze broke out in an apartment unit.
Firefighters were called to the building over the weekend and contained the blaze to one apartment, but there was water and smoke damage in other areas.
Officials say the victim was in the apartment where the fire originated and it is not considered suspicious.
The identity of the victim has not been released.
The trend isn't new, having last appeared between the summer of 2019 and spring of 2020. However, a few new recent cases have police concerned for seniors' safety.
The Conservation Officer Service says dogs were brought in and the big cat was tracked and safely captured. It had been spotted earlier in a central part of the city near the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
