Passengers still scrambling as Air Canada flights gradually resume after strike ends

  • Passengers still scrambling as Air Canada flights gradually resume after strike ends

As Air Canada's flights gradually resume in the aftermath of a three-day strike by its flight attendants, thousands of passengers are still scrambling to reach their destinations.

Maxime Vidal says he and his family were supposed to fly to Paris from Toronto's Pearson airport today, but the flight was cancelled and they've heard no word yet from the airline on when they'll be rebooked.

Vidal says the delays have forced them to spend hundreds of dollars on extra nights' stay at a hotel, and they're not sure how long they'll be stuck in Toronto.

News of the tentative deal between Air Canada and the Canadian Union of Public Employees came early this morning, and the airline says its return to full, regular service may require seven to 10 days.

It says some flights will continue to be cancelled until the schedule is stabilized.

The union says it must advise its members to "fully co-operate with resumption of operations."
