Police Arrest B.C. Prison Escapee Serving Time For Alberta Arson, Manslaughter

    VICTORIA — Police have arrested a 44-year-old inmate serving time for arson and manslaughter who escaped from a Vancouver Island prison on Tuesday afternoon.
     
    Officers say Michael Sheets was found at a home in Victoria at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and was arrested without incident.
     
    Assistant warden Anthony Baldo of the William Head Institution says Sheets was on an escorted absence when he escaped.
     
    Sheets pleaded guilty and was sentenced in 2005 to more than 14 years in prison for helping firebomb a Calgary home in an arson that killed two children.
     
    The court heard he was paid $60 and used the money to buy crack.
