RCMP Nab Impaired Drivers Over First Weekend Of CounterAttack

Darpan News Desk, 12 Dec, 2019 08:52 PM

The question to be answered is, How do you measure success when combatting Impaired Driving?

Officers in Langley spent another week focussing their efforts on making roads in the Langleys safe for everyone using them.

Over the week of December 2nd to 9th, seven drivers were found to be impaired. Two were charged criminally for being impaired by drug and five others were issued 90-day IRP’s. Eight additional drivers were issued 24-hour suspensions – three for alcohol and five for drugs.

Drug Recognition Experts were called on twice to complete testing in addition to three Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Over 22 people provided breath samples into Approved Screening Devices as part of the investigations.

Violation tickets were issued as well – 14 for intersection related violations, 13 speeding and two cell phone tickets. Six prohibited drivers were apprehended. Four vehicles were sent for inspection for equipment violations and seven regulatory violations were found (no license, no insurance, etc.)

So, was the weekend successful because so many ‘violations’ were found (and stopped)? Or was it unsuccessful because behaviour doesn’t seem to be changing…?

Let’s all help each other out and make this next week ‘successful’ for the RIGHT reasons. If you are going to partake in holiday cheer, make a plan for a safe ride home. There are so many options to choose from – Operation Red Nose, designated driver, taxi, public transit, your sober parents, your sober children, or even spend the night. NEVER GET INTO A VEHICLE WITH AN IMPAIRED DRIVER.
