Robbery suspects charged following month-long investigation

Darpan News Desk Surrey RCMP, 30 Mar, 2021 09:46 PM
  • Robbery suspects charged following month-long investigation
Two suspects have been arrested and charged after a month-long investigation into a robbery that occurred in Whalley.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m. on February 21, 2021, Surrey RCMP received a report that a man had been assaulted, and had his vehicle stolen, in the 13600-block of 100 Avenue. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The stolen vehicle was later found abandoned, and was recovered by the Metro Vancouver Transit Police on February 23, 2021, near the intersection of 97B Avenue and 137B Street.

The Surrey RCMP Robbery Unit took conduct of the investigation and identified two suspects. On March 25, 2021, with the assistance of frontline officers, Surrey RCMP Financial Crimes Unit and the Surrey RCMP Strike Force Target Team, search warrants were executed at two residences. One was in the 9700-block of 137 Street and one in the 9600-block of 137 Street.

During the execution of the search warrants, 28-year-old Melissa Cameron and 41-year-old Dane Mathison, were arrested and later charged with robbery and offences related to mail theft.

We hope this investigational update encourages the public to continue reporting crimes and providing information to the Surrey RCMP, says Corporal Joanie Sidhu, Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer. Many of our successes come as a direct result of assistance from the public.
