SPCA Seizes 29 Dogs In Poor Condition From Breeder In Squamish, B.C.

  • SPCA Seizes 29 Dogs In Poor Condition From Breeder In Squamish, B.C.
VANCOUVER — The SPCA has seized 29 dogs and puppies as part of an animal cruelty investigation into a breeder in Squamish, B.C.

The society says 18 dogs and 11 puppies were taken on Wednesday.

It says the animals, including old English sheepdogs, bearded collies and a Tibetan terrier, were badly matted and suffered from ear and skin infections, and severe dental disease.

Some of the dogs may be pregnant and all are getting veterinary treatment under the care of the SPCA.

Marcie Moriarty, the SPCA's chief prevention officer, says the seizure is another example of why regulations for dog and cat breeders are needed in the province.

The society says the dogs aren't up for adoption while the legal process is underway.
