Stolen Property Operation Dismantled By Burnaby RCMP

Darpan News Desk, 11 Oct, 2019 05:50 PM

The Burnaby RCMP’s Prolific Offender Suppression Team (POST) seized a significant quantity of stolen property including bicycles, sports equipment and machinery after a month long investigation in the City.

In mid-September, POST received a report that stolen property was being sold from a home located in the 8000-block of 14th Avenue in Burnaby. POST members began investigating and quickly concluded that the home was being used by suspects to store and purchase stolen property which was then sold online.

On September 27, 2019, POST executed a search warrant on the home in the 8000-block of 14th Avenue and a number of items were recovered. While at the location executing the search warrant, POST members were approached by a taxi driver who had been asked to deliver a piece of machinery to the home by a person on a motorcycle who followed the taxi until they saw police presence outside the home and fled.

Our POST members were able to act on this initial report and close down the stolen property operation very quickly says Corporal Daniela Panesar with Burnaby RCMP. These thieves would not be able to function without demand for the property they’re stealing so we would like for the public to help us by following our advice when buying property online.

Efforts are ongoing to reunite the property owners with their possessions, if you recognize any of the property in the images above as being yours then you are asked to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.

A 53-year-old Burnaby man is facing charges of possession of property obtained by crime in relation to this investigation.

    Tips

If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is

Always ask for original documentation related to the property such as receipts and instruction manuals

If you’re concerned about buying property online, then arrange to meet up with the seller in a public place or at your local police detachment

Take note of serial numbers for your equipment and bicycles. It will assist police in getting your property back to you.

Always report stolen property to police and ensure you provide serial numbers and any other identifying information about your property
