Surrey RCMP Arrest Two Car Theft Suspects Using Bait Car

Darpan News Desk , 25 Apr, 2018 11:49 AM
  • Surrey RCMP Arrest Two Car Theft Suspects Using Bait Car
Surrey RCMP advises that two auto crime thieves were arrested and charges have been laid following the activation of a bait car earlier last week in Surrey.

On April 16th, 2018 Surrey RCMP were notified of a bait car activation in the north end of the city. Officers observed two males inside the vehicle and driving the vehicle at different times as well as unloading items from the back of the vehicle. Surrey RCMP General Duty officers, with assistance from the Surrey RCMP’s Auto Crime Target Team (ACTT), arrested the two males and took them into custody without incident.

Joel FALK, 29 years old of Surrey, has now been charged with one count of Theft of Motor Vehicle, one count of Possession of a Break-in instrument, and one count of Mischief over $5,000.

Bryan Christopher BECKER, 42 years old of Surrey, has now been charged with one count of Theft of Motor Vehicle and one count of Possession of a Break-in instrument.

Thanks to the efforts of programs like the Bait Car, and other proactive enforcement and preventative measures, auto crime is on the decline in Surrey, says Cpl. Elenore Sturko. Together with the combined efforts of our specialized teams, analysts, and multi-jurisdictional partners we can identify, track, and arrest prolific auto thieves that much quicker and efficiently in our community.

In addition, Surrey RCMP volunteers have also been assisting police and educating the community about auto crime theft and prevention. Volunteers with our Stolen Auto Recovery (SAR) program have already exceeded last year’s total by helping recover 17 stolen vehicles in Surrey so far this year. This past month, two volunteers located a stolen vehicle being driven around the city and were instrumental in helping officers, with the assistance of BC RCMP Air 1, arrest the suspect.

Surrey RCMP recognizes Auto Crime Enforcement Month this month and reminds the public to be vigilant when it comes be protecting your vehicle and belongings. Auto crime is often the starting point for further crimes in the community and is why we encourage the public to report auto crime and suspicious activity immediately. The detachment also recognizes the invaluable contributions made to public safety by all our volunteers.
