Suspect Arrested After Mail Theft, Damage To Mailboxes In Nanaimo, B.C.

The Canadian Press, 03 Jun, 2016 12:43 PM
NANAIMO, B.C. — Nanaimo RCMP have arrested a 39-year-old man after a string of thefts from community mailboxes.

Police say a suspect was identified after Mounties worked with Canada Post to investigate the crimes over recent months in Nanaimo and the nearby Town of Lantzville.

A release says police searched a Nanaimo home and vehicle on May 26, uncovering dozens of pieces of stolen mail, break-in tools and electronics also believed stolen.

Aaron Laflam has been charged with three counts of mail theft, possession of stolen property and mischief.

Police say the man appeared at Nanaimo Provincial Court on Monday and will remain in custody until his next court date.

Canada Posts is warning the public to never mail cash and recommends putting a hold on mail delivery when travelling.
