Targeted Shooting At Busy Surrey Sushi Restaurant, One Arrested

The Canadian Press, 05 Jul, 2017 10:44 AM
SURREY, B.C. — A man has been seriously injured in what RCMP in Surrey, B.C., say appears to be a targeted attacked.

    <div>&nbsp;</div>

A news release from Staff Sgt. Dale Carr says the victim, in his 30s, was shot several times on Tuesday evening, while inside a sushi restaurant in Surrey's Guildford neighbourhood.

    <div>&nbsp;</div>
It's believed both the victim and suspect are involved in criminal activity but it's too early to say if the incident is gang-related.

    <div>&nbsp;</div>
The public nature of Surrey's latest shooting has Mounties concerned. Staff Sgt. Dale Carr said the force has assigned its "best people" on the case.

    <div>&nbsp;</div>
"It's frightening, it's brazen, and it's something again, that this community doesn't want to stand for," he said.
"We take it very, very seriously."

Another man was arrested a short distance away.

    <div>&nbsp;</div>

Carr says Surrey's serious crime investigators are trying to determine how he may have been involved in the attack.

    <div>&nbsp;</div>
Police also confirmed the victim is known to them.

    <div>&nbsp;</div>
Carr says it's too early to tell if the shooting is connected to others that have occurred recently in Surrey or around the Lower Mainland, or if the violence is linked to gangs or drugs.

Anyone with information is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
