Team Canada, represented by Midnight Sun Fireworks, has been named the winner of the 2022 Honda Celebration of Light, after the world’s longest running offshore fireworks competition wrapped up its milestone 30th year with a spectacular closing night on Saturday.

Performing on the second day of the festival on Wednesday, July 27, team Canada received the honour based on a performance for the ages, and despite stiff competition from team Japan and team Spain emerged victorious.

While all three teams produced exceptional shows to the immense delight of festivalgoers, Team Canada delivered the show-stopping performance with a breathtaking display that pushed creative boundaries.

“Canada executed their performance to near perfection, taking advantage of the barge space and maximizing the limitations of their equipment to deliver a show we’ll be talking about for years to come,” says Kelly Guille, President of Archangel Fireworks Inc. “There wasn’t any moment that didn’t feel carefully curated – the visuals, soundtrack and overall energy was utilized to its full potential. In fact, all three teams delivered performances that were indicative of the joy and excitement felt throughout this year’s festival. Congratulations to all the participating teams, we couldn’t have asked for more.”

Over the course of the festival’s three nights, approximately 1.3 million attendees helped welcome back the beloved summer staple.

The Honda Celebration of Light has served as the backdrop for countless memories for British Columbians and visitors from across Canada and around the world for the past 30 years.

“We’d like to extend a huge congratulations to team Canada for their award-winning performance at the 2022 Honda Celebration of Light,” explains Michael McKnight, Co-Chair of the Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society. “As we reflect on what was a truly marvelous 30th anniversary campaign, we are proud to have been able to return and put on a festival that is synonymous with the summer traditions of so many Vancouverites. We’re sincerely thankful for the incredible support of all those who attended this year’s event, and we’d also like to thank everyone working behind the scenes that made it successful. From the support of our partners and sponsors to the tireless efforts of our staff, and volunteers – thank you.”

Thousands also enjoyed visits to the extremely popular Morton Park Festival Zone, the soaring highs of the Red Bull Air Show, and formation flyovers from the iconic Canadian Snowbird team presented by Concord Pacific.

The board's chair Daniel John says the drop in sales came because buyers have more properties to choose from, but rising interest rates and 39-year high inflation are causing them to be cautious and thus, listings are staying available for longer.
