Thieves Make Off With $150,000 Worth Of Maple Syrup From Montreal Container Yard

The Canadian Press, 12 Aug, 2016 12:03 PM
MONTREAL — A trucking company is offering $10,000 to anyone who can help catch thieves who made off with thousands of litres of maple syrup in Montreal.

Alfredo Monaco of Mexuscan Cargo says robbers broke into his company's yard last weekend and made off with roughly $150,000 worth of maple syrup destined for the Japanese market.

The bottled syrup under Costco's Kirkland Signature brand was left in Mexuscan's cargo yard in Montreal's west end because of a delay in the shipping schedule.

Monaco says the thieves broke into several containers before choosing the one with the maple syrup and took the entire cargo along with the trailer chassis on which it was sitting.

He has offered $10,000 to anyone who can help police catch the robbers.

In 2012 thieves stole roughly $30 million worth of maple syrup from a warehouse northeast of Montreal. Police made several arrests in the case.
