  • Two die in crash on Highway 1 near Ashcroft, B.C.

Two people are dead after a crash on Highway 1 near Ashcroft, B.C., that also set off a grass fire.

RCMP say a woman driving a Honda Civic crossed the centre line and hit a semi truck head-on.

The woman in the Honda was killed in the crash and the driver of the truck also died after it veered off the road and burst into flames.

Ashcroft Fire Chief Josh White says the vehicle was fully involved in flames when their crews arrived.

White says they fought most of the grass fire before the B.C. Wildfire Service took over.

The fire grew to about 1.4 hectares.
