Waiting For Guinness Confirmation: Edmonton Baseball Game Could Be Longest

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 07 Sep, 2016 11:19 AM
EDMONTON — The longest baseball game ever may have been played in Edmonton on the long weekend.

The 72-hour, 237-inning game still needs official confirmation from  Guinness World Records.

The marathon contest involving 56 players raised $250,000 for the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

Dr. Brent Saik, who years ago also organized what became the longest hockey game, says breaking the record is good, but raising money for cancer research is better.

Saik, like most of the players on the field, has a history with cancer.

Both his wife and his father died of the disease.

“To raise a quarter-of-a-million bucks is unbelievable,” Saik told CTV Edmonton after the game ended Monday. “I really appreciate the trust that people have in us to know that what we are going to do is going to help.

"This thing has saved lives and every one of these players know that and that’s why they come here.”

The final score was 378 for Team Cure and 269 for Team Hope.
