Wanted Robbery Suspect Arrested In Surrey

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 14 Jun, 2016 12:29 PM
Surrey RCMP has arrested 18 year old Cang WAWU who is alleged to have committed financial institution robberies throughout the Lower Mainland.

After several institutional robberies were committed over a short period in several Lower Mainland jurisdictions, investigators from Surrey, Coquitlam, New Westminster, Vancouver and Burnaby quickly identified a suspect.

Surrey RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), based in the City Centre area, used crime analysis to lead them to WAWU’s suspected residence. WAWU was quickly located and arrested without incident on June 9th.

WAWU is currently charged with 3 counts of robbery, 2 from Surrey and 1 from Coquitlam. WAWU appeared in court today and remains in custody. Investigators are still working together and believe more charges will be forthcoming.

Surrey RCMP was able to quickly apprehend Mr.WAWU as a result of intelligence led policing and collaboration across a variety of police agencies, says Inspector Celso DeLemos, Senior Investigator of Investigative Services. This is a significant arrest that has disrupted the actions of one person who can be attributed to numerous crimes.
